OVARIAN REMNANT SYNDROME OR RESIDUAL OVARIAN SYNDROME
WHAT IS OVARIAN REMNANT SYNDROME OR RESIDUAL OVARIAN SYNDROME?
It’s caused by part of the ovary that’s left behind from a previous surgery. The remaining ovary can cause ovarian function to continue, which may have been the initial source of pain.
HOW IS IT DIAGNOSED?
Pelvic exam and transvaginal ultrasound help to detect if any remaining ovarian tissue is present and a cause of pain.
HOW IS IT TREATED?
Birth control pills may be initiated to suppress ovarian function. However, laparoscopic surgery may be recommended to remove the ovarian remnant.
